enjoy!
I got up at 6:30am on the 9th of August which was to be the day that I had my tooth removed. I was really nervous, as I didn’t know what it was going to be like, but little did I know, that it was going to be one of the best times I’ve spent in hospital ever!! And that’s saying something!
We got my brother up and had breakfast. As both Mum and Dad were coming with me to hospital, my brother was going to my Nanna’s house, so he didn’t have to watch the spectacle of me having my tooth out.
So we dropped my brother off at my Nan’s and headed to the hospital. I was getting ever so slightly nervous now and really didn’t want to go, but like my dad and my mum and my Nan said “It’ll all be over in a few hours and you can rest” and they were right! When we got to the hospital, I was checked in for the day, and took to the ward where I was told to wait until they called my name out. I had brought Eclipse from the Twilight Saga with me as I sometimes get bored when I’m waiting for something, but I didn’t have to wait for too long, so that was good. I then went into the waiting room, where I met the most inspirational lady this year! The hospital play nurse. She was really nice and we had some interesting conversations while we were there, including one about Twilight and which team I was on, Team Edward or Team Jacob. Team Edward won for both of us and we are proud to say we won’t ever change!
Then she asked me if school was going OK and I said yes and told her about how we are all the same and we don’t judge each other as we have the same conditions. Then as we’d spent so much time talking, I realised that it was nearly time for me to go in and I really was getting panicky now. The play nurse told me there is nothing to worry about and that it will be over in a few seconds. Little did I know that it was true!
They called my name, and I went into the treatment room. I had my coat taken off me by one of the nurses, and the nurses introduced themselves. They sat me down on the chair and explained what was going to happen, so that I was slightly reassured by it. They also told me some shocking news. One of the nurses knew the Principals PA! I was doubly shocked at this and so shocked I burst out laughing which they all found hilarious!
Then I told them how I’d met Joe Mcelderry, I’m sure he won’t mind being mentioned either. They were very very jealous and they all liked him too, which I was very proud about!
Anyway time to get on with the operation. They called the anaesthetist over and they told me that they were going to put the canula in now. This was the worst bit for me as I really hate needles! But anyway I had my dad in with me as Mum can’t stand the squeamish bit! And I also had a drink of water which really helped. The second the needle went in the play nurse bent down and knelt by the chair, and asked me if Joe was really nice, I said yes he was lovely and he even came back to wish us Happy Christmas after he’d seen us once! She asked if I’d seen him live before, I said yes and he was absolutely fantastic and she laughed. Then we moved on to the sedation bit. They told me that it would feel slightly cold, and it did! It trickled down my hand and it made me laugh. I don’t know why, but it did!
But the funniest bit was when I started slurring my words. I could not speak! And trying to talk to my dad and the play nurse was terrible as I couldn’t say half the words I wanted to say!
Then the other funny bit happened, the nurses turned on the radio and the song Like a G6 came on, now some of you should know this song, but if you don’t it’s a rap song, so singing is quite hard to do. But could they sing? No sorry guys don’t think you’d make x factor to be honest! Joking! I’m sure Tulisa, Kelly, Louis and Gary would be thrilled to have you on there. But that made me laugh too.
Then they had to numb my gum, I don’t remember this bit as the sedation juice or loopy juice as my mum and me call it was kicking in. But anyway they did that and then one or the other nurse said that I was going to feel a slight tugging in my mouth which I did and this was my tooth being taken out. When they told me it had gone, I started just randomly laughing, crying and then going into shock. Honestly for those that haven’t had it, it’s like you are drunk! Then they told me that they wouldn’t have to see me again, unless my tooth got infected, which thankfully it didn’t! Then the nurses from the ward wheeled me back to the ward, after it took about what I thought was 4 attempts to get into the wheelchair, but it was actually only 1, and then I was told to rest. But the most shocking thing of all though, was that I got my nails done while resting and I also got a present from the play nurse for being so brave. This was lovely of her and I still have it today!
I had to stay in all day unfortunately, as my blood pressure went rather high! But I am proud to say, to bring it down I thought of Joe Mcelderry and Meg Rosoff, and it helped me calm down. When my blood pressure was down enough I could go home. I was so relieved I almost jumped around, but as the sedation medication was still inside me and it made me feel slightly woozy I didn’t you’ll be pleased to know!!
When I got in the car, my charming young brother, said to me “Arrgghh I’m gonna turn away, you look like a vampire I don’t want to look at you in case you bite me” I thought charming!
When I got home, I had a bath to get rid of all the nasty hospital germs and went straight to bed. I then was waited on hand and foot for the rest of the day.
I just wanted to thank a few people at the end of this blog entry, so thank you to the play nurse, the nurses doing the operation, Mum, Dad, Joe Mcelderry and Meg Rosoff for keeping me calm, and to everyone else who cheered me up on that day. I also want to say a big thank you to whoever the anaesthetist was as he was awesome too and found a vein straight away!
So thanks to everyone. You will always remain in my heart forever and Sheena, I’ll remember you for your bright red hair! And a big thanks to Joy who did my nails for me. I had to take the nail varnish off after a bit but I can still remember the colour of them!
